Lullabot Loves You... I Love Lullabot

Jennifer mentioned in her blog entry last week that I'll be helping out with managing Archives & Museum Informatics' 1275+ member on-line community at http://conference.archimuse.com, as part of my position with the company. Well, in case you didn't know, we use Drupal, an amazing open source content management platform, to run this site. However, considering how powerful Drupal is, it is admittedly rather complex to a non-techie Museum Studies grad like myself.

Public Forum to Explore Kids’ Learning in Virtual Worlds, Los Angeles and Second Life

At a public forum in Los Angeles on November 14th experts in media and education will explore what kids are doing in virtual worlds and what it means for their values, identity and sense of community. Hosted by Common Sense Media and the MacArthur Foundation, the event will be simulcast in Teen Second Life.

Join us on November 14th for a physical world and in-world discussion about what kids are learning in virtual worlds (update: the physical event is now full, however it will be possible to watch a simulcast or in-world viewing of the event). Four leading thinkers on virtual worlds will talk about what kids are doing in these new digital spaces - including Second Life, Whyville, There.com, The Sims and others - and how they are influencing kids’ values, identity and sense of community.

STEWARDSHIP OF DIGITAL ASSETS
A two-day workshop on sustaining digital collections

The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC), in conjunction with PALINET, SOLINET, Amigos Library Services, and OCLC Western Service Center, is pleased to announce Stewardship of Digital Assets: Sustaining Digital Collections. This lecture and exercise-based workshop is designed to provide Participants with tools and methods to assess their institution's digital preservation needs, and develop plans and policies to sustain their digital collections.

STEWARDSHIP OF DIGITAL ASSETS will be taught by a faculty of nationally known digital experts: Liz Bishoff, Tom Clareson, Robin Dale, and Katherine Skinner.

This hands-on workshop will be presented at four locations across the country from Fall 2007 - Fall 2008. SPACE IS LIMITED TO 35 PEOPLE FOR EACH WORKSHOP.

Please join us in a workshop on learning and research in Second Life
on October 17, 2007 in Vancouver at Internet Research 8.0 (http://

Paper Deadline August 15th.

Second Life(R) is a 3d virtual environment created by Linden Lab
which has captured the attentions of researchers and teachers from
around the world from a variety of disciplines.

This workshop aims to improve the understanding of Second Life as a
Learning and Research environment. It will bring 35 researchers
together to collaborate, discuss and workshop diverse topics related
to research and learning in Second Life. We will pursue a full-day
schedule in which participants will discuss their work and interests
on four different topics: learning in Second Life, integrated
learning, the contributions of research to the community and ethical
research methods. How can we better enable learning in this sphere?
How can we better enable research?

As a highlight, Robin Linden will give a talk to the group, and
members of Linden Lab will participate throughout the day.
