The organizing committee also invites proposals (approx. 500-700 words) from Canadian and international scholars and practitioners working on the application of digital technology to the study of material culture up to c.1700 (computer science, archaeology, anthropology, geography, history, literature, etc.) for a pre-conference seminar on "Digitizing Early Material Culture: from Antiquity to Modernity." Final submissions should aim to be 2,500-5,000 words in length and may address digital projects, programs of research, digital tools and practices, or theory related to the digitization of material culture to the end of the seventeenth century.

well, true to form, we've been watching the proposals for Museums and the Web 2008 flow in all day. what is it about our always on culture that's embedded this last minute madness in the way we work?
i know that even though it's late on friday (most places) we'll see some more filter in tonight. and then there's tomorrow and the next day (did anyone notice it was a weekend?); we didn't when we set the deadline...
ah well – we know that there's a problem in museum culture: a lack of time to be reflective, even though that's one of the things we try to provoke in our work [thinking, learning, seeing anew – aren't these what we want our visitors to do?].
as our small contribution to collective memory, we've insisted on written papers for Museums and the Web (and we keep them all online).
so now, make that reflexive jump towards the next deadline: September 30, 2007. Museums and the Web, Montreal, April 9-12, 2008. Call for Particiption. we want to see your best work, and participate in the process of discussing, documenting and sharing it. we can all take some time out to learn.

Museums and the Web 2008
April 9-12, 2008
Montréal, Québec, Canada
http://www.archimuse.com/mw2008/
Submissions are invited for the next Museums and the Web conference. If you are doing interesting work making art, culture, science or heritage available on-line, MW is the conference to present your discoveries, and to meet others working in the field world-wide. Over 800 people from 30+ countries met in San Francisco at MW2007.
Taking an international perspective, senior speakers with extensive experience review and analyze the issues and impacts of networked cultural, natural and scientific heritage. Together, we are using all the Web tools at our disposal to transform communities and organizations.
The deadline for proposals is September 30, 2007. Make your proposal on-line. All proposals are peer-reviewed by an International Program Committee.
