Why

The 1934 Wordie web exhibition utilises an innovative use of Google maps to interpret the web exhibition theme. Images and rich textual interpretation integrate objects, photographs and documentary archives from the Museum's collections to relate the exhibition narrative.Furthermore, as part of the Museum's ongoing research and development in providing engaging online access to its collections, this web exhibition also features the facility for visitors to contribute comments regarding each page's contents. The web site is soon to play a significant role in a gallery exhibition featuring Wordie's 1934 and 1937 expedition. The website will be used to gather comments from Arctic communities and the wider public audience. Comment feeds will then be broadcast in the gallery space to represent an alternative interpretation alongside the curatorial narrative. Appropriate visitor comments will also be considered for inclusion in the Museum's internal catalogue. Thus, this site represents potential to be more than just a web exhibition. It is also social web tool to help the Museum engage in collaboration with its multiple audiences.
