Abstract

The intersection of interactive multimedia and public space environments such as museums provides the opportunity to examine some of the fundamental environmental qualities of both domains. Public spaces are clearly public, spatial and timeless. Multimedia Is multisensorial and provides for controlled segmentation and group experiences. Both focus on the interactive experience. The key to good multimedia design in public space settings s to examine the relationship between the nature of the interactivity and the objects within the space as well as the space itself. This paper presents a framework for analysis and some suggestions for good design practice.
