| Abstract | Starting this year, the Code du Patrimoine regarding legal deposit applicable since 1992, will be extended to incorporate all multimedia and computing published documents. This law will allow us to integrate video games within the collecting, describing, preserving and accessing missions assigned to the Audiovisual department of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Their inclusion at the core of patrimonial collections beside books, discs, or videos, is the occasion for the institution to face new challenges. Durability of the access is one of the most important of them for it reveals the frailty of digital documents. Content matters should not be forgotten as collection completeness. It has no chance to be achieved without a close partnership with authors and publishers for whom legal deposit is still quite new. The presence of a video games collections enables to bring together conditions for questioning this original media. The cultural heritage institution could as a vocation collaborate with both the professional and the academic research fields from providing a complementary perspective on this publishing activity in order to get a better analysis of the essential critical apparatus to these documents. | |
