La mémoire et les programmes informatiques peuvent contribuer à définir d’autres approches théoriques et critiques de l’art actuel. Mais l'accumulation de documents indexés dans des bases de données ne permet par elle- même ni de construire l'histoire des oeuvres ni de développer leur analyse. Il faut s'interroger à la fois sur la constitution de l'archive et la notion de document, et sur les modalité de parcours qui gèrent leur exploration. Les premiers titres d'«Muntadas Media Architecture Installations et Digital Snow) une collection de DVD-Roms consacrés à l’art contemporain, - en particulier aux installations et aux performances-, serviront d’exemples à ces recherches. La particularité de ces réalisations est d’être à la fois une création conduite par l’artiste, et une recherche historique et critique sur ses oeuvres élaborée à partir d’archives multiples. Abstract (paper in French) Computer memory and software may help to determine new theoretical and critical approaches in today’s art. However, collecting and indexing documents in a database doesn’t automatically give rise to an analysis or a history of the works. The design of the archive, the nature of the documents included in it, and the best way for the user to explore the contents, have to be taken into account. The first titles of “anarchive” (Muntadas Media Architecture and Digital Snow) - a series of DVD- Rs dedicated to contemporary art, particularly installations and performance pieces – will serve as examples of this type of work.
